Post Grad School Plans

Hey all -

As grad school comes to an end, I look forward to many things:

0. Spending more time with my wife!
1. Sleeping - this has been far too rare an occurrence over the past two years
2. Reading things I actually want to read.
3. Devoting more time to Green Party activities.
4. And lets not forget....getting to start paying my student loans!

But most of all, I look forward to working with my fellow GSPM grad's as we go out into the world of politics. I really have been privileged to work and study with some amazing people.

I have been working to change the world for the past 10 years with my activity in the Green Party, and I am just getting started!

Introduction: Hello!

Welcome to my new blog: Essential Green Party Politics!

My name is Daryl Northrop, a Green Party political operative, former candidate for elected office, husband to my wonderful wife April, student at The Graduate School of Political Management at The George Washington University, and someone who wants to work for real, progressive political change in the United States of America.

Please follow this blog and come back often for updates on progressive politics, discussions of ideas, and a group conversation about growing the Green Party of the United States as the electoral powerhouse of people-centric politics.

My belief is that political power resides solely with people, and that through their elected representatives, they decide on the form, scope, activities, reach, and goals of government. They decide what government does or does not do, and how government does the things they task it to do. I believe that accountability is vital. Secrecy and corruption are the enemies of democracy wherever you find it.

However, without an electorate that is energized, engaged, and educated politically, none of this is possible. My belief that is that a political system on auto-pilot is headed into the side of a mountain.

The Green Party is not the only way for people to enter into political activity, but I believe it is a good way to enter, and a home of good ideas. To that end, I will do all that I can to generate good ideas, engage in electoral activity, recognize the vital components of social movement and issue advocacy, and work towards not only the success of the party to which I am member, but to a broadening and strengthening of the institutions of democracy in our country.
